Lesson Plan 1: Animals and their Environments

How does this fit into the curriculum? SC2: Life Processes and Living Things. Pupils should be taught that the life processes common to humans and other animals include nutrition, movement, growth and reproduction (1a); to make links between life processes in familiar animals and plants and the environments in which they are found (1c).

SC1: Scientific Enquiry. Pupils should be taught to consider what sources of information, including first-hand experience and a range of other sources, they will use to answer questions (2b); use a wide range of methods including diagrams, drawings, tables, bar charts, line graphs and ICT, to communicate data in an appropriate and systematic matter (2h).

Teachers' Note: Download this sheet and hand it out to the class. They are to undertake research from a variety of sources to find out all they can about the life processes of their chosen animal. You could assign animals if you prefer. Their diagrams and drawings can be displayed in the classroom.
